BHHS Celebrates Student Excellence at 2026 Academic Achievement Night

On Thursday, May 14, 2026, Brookings-Harbor High School hosted its annual Academic Achievement Night, honoring students who demonstrated excellence in academics, leadership, citizenship, Career and Technical Education, fine and performing arts, athletics, and personal growth. The evening opened with ASB Student Body President Sahara Sankoh leading the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a welcome from Principal Dr. Kelly Whitley.

Students were recognized on stage with certificates and academic achievement patches for a letterman’s jacket, celebrating their hard work and accomplishments throughout the school year. Teachers and staff representatives from each department presented awards in Language Arts, Social Studies, Leadership, Science, Mathematics, CTE, Allied Health, Fine Arts, Music, Yearbook, National Honor Society, World Languages, Physical Education, Health, Wildland Firefighting, and Athletics.

A standout moment of the evening was the presentation of Allied Health Certifications to nine students. To earn this certification, students completed dual-credit coursework through Southwestern Oregon Community College in Medical Terminology, Body Structures, Health Occupations, and Medical Law and Ethics, earning 17 college credits. Each student received a certificate and stethoscope in recognition of this milestone toward future careers in healthcare.

The evening also included recognition of three students who earned the Oregon State Seal of Biliteracy: Andrea Ramirez-Cortes and Sarai Medina for Spanish, and Elyza De Vera for Tagalog. This honor recognizes students who demonstrate a high level of proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in one or more world languages in addition to English.

New this year, BHHS presented a Hero Award to Brady Garnier and Logan Gradney, recognizing students who went above and beyond Bruin PRIDE and demonstrated honorable citizenship by helping to save a person’s life.

Athletic Director Keith Wallin recognized Lexie Newman and Zander Carlson as the 2026 BHHS Athletes of the Year. Vice Principal Shaun Bavaro presented Bruin PRIDE Awards to students who exemplify Pride, Respect, Integrity, Dignity, and Excellence, as well as Most Improved Student Awards to Brady Garnier and Lincoln Rosenberg.

The evening concluded with the Warren and Dolores Glaze Principal’s Award, presented by Dr. Whitley. This special recognition honors a student who has demonstrated exceptional growth and transformation throughout high school. The 2026 Glaze Principal’s Award, accompanied by a $200 scholarship, was presented to Jake Jones.

Congratulations to all of this year’s honorees. Your dedication, growth, leadership, and achievements make the Brookings-Harbor High School community proud.
