Notification of Precautionary “Secure” Action

Dear Brookings-Harbor School District Families,

This message is to inform you that our schools initiated a precautionary "Secure" action (formerly known as "Lockout") today, November 20, 2024, from approximately 11:55 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., due to a concerning report near the school.

The Secure action is called when there is a potential threat or hazard outside the school building. During this time:

  • Students are brought into the main building and remain indoors while continuing with their usual school activities.
  • Staff ensure all exterior doors are locked, increase situational awareness, and account for students.

Local law enforcement quickly investigated the situation and made contact with the individual in question that matched a report made by several students. The matter was resolved, and the “Secure” action was lifted without incident.

Please be assured that at no time were students or staff in immediate danger. This action was taken out of an abundance of caution to ensure everyone’s safety.

Thank you for your support as we remain committed to the safety of our school community. If you have any questions, please contact your Principal or myself.

Helena Chirinian, Superintendent
Brookings-Harbor School District
