I am the 9th grade English teacher at Brookings-Harbor High School in Brookings, Oregon. I have received a fellowship this year with the Journalistic Learning Initiative, an Oregon-based nonprofit organization that supports students in developing media literacy and effective communication skills. 

This fellowship for English teachers (map) is in partnership with the University of Oregon School of Journalism and Communication. Over the past months, I taught an in-depth project called Effective Communicators. The project introduces students to their local news publications, encourages thoughtful interaction with media sources, and has them experience the journalistic process of researching, interviewing, writing, and publishing on local issues that concern them.
