BHHS Back to School Letter

Greetings Bruin families,

We are excited to share that school will be back in session just after Labor Day and we are looking forward to seeing all of you.

This year will present new challenges, but it will also come with a return to many familiar practices and opportunities for our students to engage in the high school experience.  We are committed to providing impactful face-to-face learning and we will be following all health and safety guidelines outlined by the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) and Oregon Department of Education (ODE) to ensure that school continues to be a safe place for students.

There are a few things below that you need to know prior to the first day of school by all families.

  1. Register ALL returning students

Update and confirm your student(s) information through the PowerSchool Online Registration and Parent Portal. This is required and replaces the paper packets we usually ask parents to complete at the start of every school year. Visit https://www.brookings.k12.or.us/ and click the dropdown menu for “Family Resources” to find the “21-22 Online Registration” instructions and links to get started. If you need assistance, please contact our office at (541) 469-2108. We can help you over the phone as well as set up individual appointments. It is essential that we have updated email addresses and phone numbers.

  1. Face Masks

Please note that like last year, students and staff are required to wear facemasks to participate in face-to-face instruction. We will review this with students when we return and provide them with locations and opportunities to engage in mask breaks when necessary.

  1. Freshman & New Student “Soft Start” Orientation on First Day

Ninth grade (9th) students and students who are new to the district should attend school on Tuesday, September 7th from 8:10am-1:10pm to meet their teachers, follow their schedules, tour the building, and receive their student chromebooks. This is a great opportunity to get comfortable before everyone returns.

  1. First week of school

Returning students should bring their Bruin knapsack to carry their chromebooks. Every teacher will utilize a Google Classroom this year. Our Bell Schedule can be found on our website.
