Update on state and county metrics for school reopening

Friday (08/21/20), Oregon Gov. Kate Brown gave a Press Briefing, in which she shared updates on the challenges facing schools reopening in Oregon.

ON-TRACK FOR K-3

  • Under a special exemption that uses a different set of metrics that must be met for grades Kindergarten through 3rd Grade, Curry County remains on track for BHSD to begin the year with a hybrid of in-person half days and distance learning for Grades K-3, with the first classroom day on Friday, Sept. 11. BHSD's academic year begins on Tuesday, Sept. 8. Learn more about our fall orientation activities and in-person start date details by grade

CURRENT METRICS MEAN CDL ONLY FOR 4-12

  • Statewide and locally, our district does not yet meet the metrics that allow for in-school instruction for Grades 4-12. Expect our students to start the academic year in comprehensive distance learning (CDL) for these grade levels when BHSD's academic year begins on Tuesday, Sept. 8. • It has already been announced that Grades 6-12 will remain in distance learning for the full first quarter until Oct. 30.
  • We will monitor the week-by-week situation for Grades 4-5 in hopes of an earlier return to classrooms (currently slated for Friday, Sept. 18, if metrics improve).
